Travesti
Travesti is a Latin American feminine gender identity that fits under the transfem umbrella term because it is related to femininity. The term was previously used in social contexts to refer to prostitution, Criminality and marginality, but it has been historically reinterpreted by the trans and travesti communities. A Travesti is a person who was assigned masculine characteristics at birth but rejected the masculinity assigned to them by society due to an incongruence between their sense of self and the imposed gender norms. Every travesti is a trans woman, but not every trans woman is a travesti. This may be because the term does not align with their personal life experiences, or they do not feel connected to the historical context of the term and, therefore, prefer the term "Mulher Transgênero"(Transgender woman in Portuguese) or "Mulher Trans"(Short term for "Mulher Transgênero") because it aligns more with their own individual experiences and preferences. In Brazil, being a travesti can vary from being a trans woman to a different concept of gender. For a long time, people believed that a travesti was a "man" who felt like a woman but still felt pleasure with "his" member, which is untrue for many cases. In some cases, it can be used to refer to drag queens. Mulher Pepita, a travesti, claims that she always knew she was a travesti and that it is different from being a trans woman. In general, it falls under the binary trans woman and transfem umbrella. [1] [2] [3] [4]
